Student: Hi, Barbara/ Bobby.

Interlocutor: Hi!

Student: I dropped in yesterday but you weren't in.

Interlocutor: Right. I was at the sports centre. My friend asked me to see a weight lifting competition with him.

Student: Weight lifting? Did you really like it?

Interlocutor: No. And I don’t approve of it. To me it’s rather extreme. Do people in your country do extreme sports?

Student: Yes, I believe they do.

Interlocutor: And what extreme sports are the most popular in your country?

Student: Oh, I don’t know much about extreme sports, but I know that some people like parachuting. Some enjoy diving. Extreme biking is also popular. And motor racing, of course! Lots of guys are crazy about racing cars.

Interlocutor: Those are all so dangerous. What makes people risk their life, do you think? I can't see any reason for it.

Student: Well, there is probably a reason. People find extreme sports exciting. They like speed and the feeling of danger. Another thing is that some extreme sports let people see the most beautiful views of the world. Divers, for example, say that the underwater world is wonderful and it’s worth the risk.

Interlocutor: Yeah, maybe that's true.

Student: And mountain climbers say they can’t live without mountains. They are ready to do anything to get to the top and to see the breathtaking view from up there.

Interlocutor: Yes. Right. But on the other hand, there are so many real dangers in the world, there’s no need to invent additional ones. Natural disasters, for example.

Student: Yes… Right…

Interlocutor: And the media says global warming could lead to more disasters. Do you know anything about it? Do you think global warming can really affect our life?

Student: Yes. I think it can.

Interlocutor: How?

Student: When the temperatures all over the world rise, the polar caps melt. There are huge amounts of ice on the planet. And if some of it melts…, turns into water…, the water level in the ocean will rise. It means the water will cover the land. Huge areas will go underwater and people will have less land to live on and to grow crops.

Interlocutor: Sounds frightening. Is there any way out?

Student: Yes, it is frightening. And it’s important to stop global warming somehow, but it’s not easy. People and governments understand the danger but they cannot work together to prevent it.

Interlocutor: Yeah… Looks like we need a superhero to appear and save the world. But that only happens in films, unfortunately.

Student: Yeah.

Interlocutor: That reminds me. We are going to the cinema on Saturday. My friends and I. It’s a film about a superhero who saves the world from robots. How about joining us?

Student: That would be great, but I can’t. Sorry. I have already made my plans for this weekend.

Interlocutor: It’s ok. Next time probably.

Student: Yes. Thanks anyway.

Interlocutor: You're welcome.

Student: And I have to say bye now. A friend is waiting for me and I need to rush. See you soon.

Interlocutor: Bye!
